Back-to-school already?

It seems hard to believe, but August is half-way over and excitement is growing for the upcoming school year. As the school year approaches, it becomes important to tidy up a few details while time may still be more of a luxury rather than a tornado of to-do lists and lesson plans.

Here is your back-to-school inquiry guide to lead you through the next few weeks:

  • Take some time to do a bit more research and sure up your process.

  • Talk to your principal NOW before the school year takes up most of his/her time.

  • Talk to your team/department during the opening day meetings. You may even want to share your experience at ISI during a full faculty meeting. You never know who may be an advocate in your process...this may open a door.

  • If needed, revise your proposal so it is ready for an audience. You may want to amend the original form to hand out to your team, principals, superintendent, etc. Showing people this information will give them a concrete view of your upcoming inquiry project.

  • Create any surveys, letters home, or release forms you may need during the process. You can always go back and tweak them later, but at least the bulk of the work will be complete.

  • Make sure to schedule in "study time" during the week. Time that is kept as a "can't miss" appointment to yourself will help you stay on track and keep you from being overwhelmed.

  • Remember, I'm just a phone call away. If you want to chat, bounce ideas, set up a meeting, or vent...just call! I will also read drafts along the way. Please send them any time.

One last tip, take some time to truly enjoy the last few days of summer. Go out for ice cream, take a hike (or kayak), relax with your favorite beverage in a comfy chair...then get ready to get down to business! See you in September!
